Do I need to rent a car? PDF Print E-mail

Yes and no. We strongly urge you to rent a car during your stay. Here is why:

If you elect not to rent a car, you will be spending a great deal of time in trains and buses. For example:

To get from the airport in Rome to Soriano by train/bus, you would:

  1. Take the train from the airport to Roma Termini (Rome Central train station). (1 hour)
  2. Take aother train from Roma Termini to Orte Train Station (36 minutes)
  3. Take a bus from Orte Train Station to Soriano (20 minutes)

When you consider time between schedules, you will likely need between 3 and 4 hours for the trip.

To get from the airport in Rome to Soriano by car, you would:

  1. Exit the airport and take expressways, following the signs to Florence until you reach the Orte Exit (1 hour)
  2. Take the freeway toward Viterbo, exiting at the Soriano offramp (10 minutes)
  3. Drive surface streets to Soriano (5 minutes)

It is a total of 1 hour and 15 minutes. Additionally, it is an easy drive with very easy to follow directions. While Italian drivers are known to be crazy, this is really only true in the urban areas. The expressways and smaller towns are very easy to drive in.

Hiring a Taxi

Getting Around

If you don't have a car, you will be able to get around by bus and train with no real problems, but you will be tied to the schedules, and you will waste time. Remember, that to go most anywhere this way, you will have to take the bus to the Orte Train Station, which is a 20 minute bus ride from Soriano.
