A Better way to Tour Italy

Leave the tour busses and chain hotels for someone else and discover the real Italy the way it was meant to be seen. Go places that large tour groups can't, and experience the wonders of real Italian life, rather than the Italy that has been manufactured for masses.

DiscoverSoriano's tours are made up of very small groups that allow us the freedom to share Italy with you in a way that you could never experience with a traditional tour.

The Colloseum in Rome

Sunflower field in Tuscany

The Monster Park at Bomarzo

Get Off the Beaten Path

Find out what it is like to have a private picnic in the ruins of a medieval castle, miles away from other tourists. Discover the ruins of an ancient Roman amphitheater that tour busses have never seen. Explore the remains of an Etruscan village that pre-dates the ancient Romans . Stroll through a 14th century amusement park believed to have been designed by Michelangelo himself. Visit stunning volcanic lakes, breathtaking hilltowns, cheese factories, vineyards, olive mills, and so much more. These are the hidden gems that few tourists ever get the opportunity to experience.

Of course, we also offer traditional points of interest, such as Rome, Florence, Assisi, Amalfi, Pompeii, etc. But we can promise these other wonders are the ones you will be talking about for years to come.

Personal and Intimate

We limit our groups to only 8 to 10 people. With such a small group, everything is more intimate, and it has allowed us to make lifelong friends. Everyone really gets to know one another, making for a fantastic experience.

We can stay in one place longer, or completely skip a place. We can make on-the-fly changes as a group without worrying about satisfying a bus full of people. After all, we are a small group. Since we almost always come ‘home’ at night, you can usually skip a day if you just want to relax. We are not rushing around trying to people in and out of a bus all day. We are taking it easy and having a good time. After all, it is your vacation.

The Marmore Falls in Umbria

Lake Piediluco in Umbria

Pitigliano in Tuscany

Immerse Yourself in Italian Culture

The small size of our tours also allows us to expose you to real Italian culture. We dine in beautiful trattorias and cafes where the locals dine. We stay in beautiful village homes among the locals. Rather than looking at Italy through the window of a tour bus, we integrate with the culture.

You will experience Italy in a way that very few foreigners ever have. You will have lived the real Italy, and it will be the experience of a lifetime.

All of the tours listed below can be booked for any dates you desire unless otherwise noted. The one-week tours run from Saturday to Saturday. There is a minimum of two people per tour unless otherwise noted.

Wine Harvest
Between mid September and early October we offer groups that participate in any of the tours listed above (or custom-designed tours) the opportunity to replace one or more day's itinerary with a day dedicated to the wine harvest. We will spend this day at a local vineyard, where you will grab a basket and join us for an hour or so in the vineyard to harvest the grapes. Once your basket is full, we'll proceed to the wine press where we will begin the process of making our own wine as we snack on local cheese and salame, and drink some mosto (the juice from the wine grapes) and wine from past harvests. We'll have dinner at the vineyard that night, and before you go home, you will bring back a couple bottles of the very wine you made this week.

Chestnut Harvest
Between late September and late October we offer groups that participate in any of the tours listed above (or custom-designed tours) the opportunity to replace one or more day's itinerary with a day dedicated to the chestnut harvest. That evening, we will have dinner down at our Villa Eddarella, where we will roast our chestnuts over our 17th century fireplace, followed by dinner completely based on centuries-old chestnut recipies. Porcini Mushroom Hunting
Porcini mushrooms are so rare and valuable, in part, because they grow in very few areas, and only when the conditions are just right. Even when it is all perfect, finding them is very challenging, and requires an expert licensed Porcini Hunter. Soriano happens to be one of the few places that Porcini are found, and the months of September through December are when you have your best chance of finding them. If you are on any of our tours during that period, and the conditions look right for Porcini Hunting, we offer you the opportunity to replace a day's itinerary with a Porcini Hunt. We'll get up at the crack of dawn, and venture into the forest with the expert guide, who will show us the signs to look for as he teaches us about this mystical forest and the Porcini themselves. Each person will have a bag of their own to collect the mushrooms that morning. In the evening, we will take our treasure down to our Villa Eddarella, where we will create a dinner completely based on Porcini mushrooms. For those on a cooking tour, this will be a special class, and we will show you how to adapt the dishes top other mushrooms (or dried Porcini) back home. For those not interested in class, enjoy this rare and unique meal.

September through December when conditions allow.
